Erase and Install Mac OS X

Well, if you are wondering where I have been lately, I have a good excuse. My system has had a lot of trouble lately, and has been crashing due to an excessive amount of freeware applications. OOPS!

So, yesterday I backed up my photos, music, videos, and some applications to my iPod, and today I erased and installed. It is so amazing how much different it looks when you start it up for the first time. Everything looks great and clean, the dock is nice and big, and it’s lightning fast, just like out of the box.

It is really easy to re-install, in case you don’t know. Just insert your latest OS disc, and restart. On restart you will be asked questions. If you want to completely erase your hard drive, and you have a backup, you should use “Erase and Install”. If you just want to reinstall, but want to keep your files, you should use “Archive and Install”. I’m not positive if you can do an Archive and Install, if you aren’t upgrading to a new OS, but I still recommend backing up and using “Erase and Install”. Once you first start up, immediately update your system and put your important files back on your Mac.

If anyone has had trouble with their Macs, I would suggest backing up and re-installing Mac OS. It really makes a computer run like it was new.
