iPhoto Buddy – Use, move, and create multiple libraries with iPhoto

January 18, 2006

Here’s a very simple solution to those of you who either have hit the limit of number of photos in your library, or if you are looking for a way to store and organize multiple libraries for iPhoto. iPhoto Buddy cures the problem. You can install an infinite amount of libraries, password protect them, and you easily switch libraries by double-clicking on the library you want to use. It’s that simple! And along with making a new library, you also can create new albums within that library.

iPhoto Buddy makes it easy for you to make install libraries. All you need to do is make a new folder and drag in into the iPhoto Buddy window. On the initial use of iPhoto Buddy, you need to install the iPhoto Library that you are already using. So just go into your “Pictures” folder, and drag the “iPhoto Library” folder.

Another reason why you might want to use iPhoto Buddy, is if you want to make and use a library on an iPod or separate firewire drive. Just make a folder in the drive, and drag it into iPhoto Buddy.

iPhoto Buddy also works with iMovie and iDVD. iPhoto Buddy was recently updated to version 1.2.4, allowing support for iLife ’06. iPhoto Buddy is compatible with Jaguar, Panther, and Tiger, and iLife ’04, ’05, and ’06.

This sounds like a cool application. Could it work as well for sharing a library between two users of iPhoto? Putting the iPhoto Buddy library file into a shared directory and opening it from there?
