AppleInsider has a great article concerning the new “Yonah” processor and the Intel processors at Macworld. The new Yonah processors will be unveiled by Intel at the Consumer Electronic Show on January 5, 2006. It seems very obvious that Apple will use the Yonah, because January 5th is only 5 days before Steve’s Keynote on the 10th. The Yonah is also a perfect match for Apple’s new systems in 2006, because of its fast dual-core speed and its cheap price.
The Yonah processor is to take over the Centrino name, and is to be seperated into two versions – the Core Solo and the Core Duo (as seen in image). The Core Solo has 1.66GHz speed, and the Core Duo has 1.66, 1.83, 2.0, and 2.16 speeds. AppleInsider also tells that the Yonah is to have 667MHz front-side bus and 2MB Level 2 cache.
AppleInsider, in the article, gives the details on the overall performance of the Yonah. It performs well in graphic and 3d stuff, and also performs well in “iTunes MP3 encoding, DVD ripping, 3dmax, Adobe Photoshop CS, and Adobe Premier benchmark tests.”
This sounds very, very interesting and I can’t wait to see one of these things in a PowerBook or iBook. I like the way Apple got first dibs on the newest and greatest processor out there, but they really need to upgrade the laptops to compete with the other PC-branded laptops.

[…] The Intel iBook has a high possibility of showing up at Macworld 2006. Expected to be much cheaper, much faster (with possibility of the new Yonah chip), longer battery life, and much lighter and thiner. The first generation of the new iBook will probably have a “Centrino (Yonah) Core Solo”, where another upgrade to the iBook could bring a faster processor. The screen size is also said to be changed, with the 14″ screen to be changed to a 13″ widescreen, but the 12″ is supposed to stay the same. (I have noticed that the 14″ iBook does look pretty strange.) The iBook could also include a new version of Front Row, and could include a built-in iSight. […]
