Apple has made it possible for Mighty Mouse owners to use the scroll-ball to perform many tasks in certain applications. Some of these tips also work with other mice from 3rd party companies.
There is a lot of mouse’s out there for you to choose the best one for you, this expensive gaming mouse will be worth it if you are a gamer or a gamer developer.
In Safari, when viewing a quicktime movie, just scroll vertically to fast-forward or rewind the movie. Or in iTunes, scroll horizontally above the volume bar to change the volume. In Quicktime Player, scroll vertically to fast-forward and rewind, and scroll horizontally to change the volume (the cursor must be over the timeline in order to work). In some applications, you can scroll through drop-down menus.
So, start using that scroll ball in different applications, and you’ll soon discover how much you can control with the Mighty Mouse.

By accident I found that similar tricks work on the new Powerbook (and future MacBook I guess) – in fact any trackpad with the new two-finger scrolling feature. Though, the volume in quicktime seems to be reversed to my logic at least.

You are correct, Andy. It makes no sense the way the volume is reversed in Quicktime, but it is very strange.

The volume bit seems a little contrived as you have to hover over the volume bar anyway – why not just click on it to change. The FF/Rewind function is cool, though.
