Australia iTMS

October 24, 2005

Adam Christianson’s MacCast and World of Apple have both mentioned that Apple will announce the Australian iTunes Music Store, at the Press Confrence in Sydney tomorrow.

The MacCast beleives that it will be the same pricing structure as the Japanese iTunes Music Store, where newer music is pricier than older. Japan’s prices per song is 150Â¥ (about $1.00) for old songs, and 200Â¥ (about $1.50) for newer ones. The reason why it is taking so long for Apple to get the iTunes Music Store into these countries, is because of the record companies. And Sony and Warner Music are the record companies responsible for this mess. By the way, Warner Music seems to be constructing a new site, I don’t know if that has any coincidence or not. At least Australia is finally getting a Music Store. I’m really glad Steve Jobs is fighting for that .99 cent pricing structure, and hope that the record labels don’t get too greedy.

Update!
The Music Store was the announcement, and now all of Australia can buy songs, and it is about the same system as the Japanese iTMS system.
