Apple today seeded version 9A559 of Leopard, which according to MacRumors, fixes “two known issues for Leopard. The two issues described involve upgrading from Tiger to Leopard on PowerPC systems in certain scenarios, and HP printer drivers.”
With this seed, Apple continued to polish Leopard’s user interface. New app icons, new desktop backgrounds, new welcome video, and UI elements polish.
An important change Apple’s made with OS X is now some of the more important CoreService applications, like Spotlight, Exposé, and Front Row can be launched through independent apps that are now available in the Applications folder, similar to the Dashboard app. Spaces can also be launched as an application. Make sure you know how to cut pcb in case you need to replace it for a faster result.
Other minor tweaks Apple has made with 9A559 include:
- iCal displaying the date even when not active
- New music with the welcome video
- New icons for the Desktop, Spaces, and Front Row
- New desktop backgrounds. One of them is the iPhone’s default desktop background (which was taken by NASA), the other is a beautiful profile of the Earth.
- Further universal UI polishing
It looks like Leopard is really close to reaching Release Candidate stage. As Apple continues to push out seeds more frequently, it seems Apple’s making the final UI polishes before Leopard is finally declared Gold Master. So far, I’m really impressed with the improvements Apple’s made with the UI.

I love the new music. Suits the video well.
Back when the interface was previewed at WWDC I was expecting the folder icons to change by the final release. Well, maybe I was more hoping as at the moment I think they look terrible – although they will grow on me.
Another change I expected was that to the scroll bars. I think something like iTunes’ scroll bars would have made it to the Finder. Oh well.

This is another reason why I love my Mac better than the PC’s I fix. Just when you start to think, “Hey, Windows looks good these days”, Apple just make X that order of magnitude better.

Do you any of you guys know whether the space wallpaper is like, a real Hubble shot, or just some digital artists imagination?

@scott- The purple image with the gas clouds?
It is a real photo. it was taken somewhere around saturn, pointing outward towards a nebula.
The new video is nice, but I think it should ask you to choose a language before the video plays, so its not just saying “welcome” over and over. sort of killed the image for me.
