One of the first issues I had when using Windows XP for the first time on my MacBook Pro was the inability to right-click. I automatically tried to use the control-click method, forgetting I was no longer in Mac OS X. Soon I discovered the Apple Mouse Utility which fixes the right-click issue in Windows, but it did not fix other issues such as a delete key or a way to use the function keys to alter the brightness and sound settings. One way to resolve this problem was by remapping the keyboard. But this method invloves a bit of extra Windows knowledge and does not let you take advantage of the function keys and keyboard shortcuts.
Finally, someone has compiled an application that resolves all of these issues. Input Remapper is a basic Windows program that configures the keyboard layout to make it usable in Windows XP.
Download Input Remapper .9.14 Beta via this forum thread as a freeware .exe program.
Input Remapper remaps these keys to make your MacBook Pro keyboard useful in Windows XP:
- Remaps the keypad like in OS X, which includes num-lock functionality.
- fn+Left Click = Right Click
- fn+Backspace = Delete
- fn+Eject = PrintScreen
- fn+F1 = Decrease Brightness
- fn+F2 = Increase Brightness
- fn+F3 = Toggle Mute
- fn+F4 = Decrease Volume
- fn+F5 = Increase Volume
- fn+F6 = Toggle Num-Lock
- fn+Up = Page Up
- fn+Down = Page Down
- fn+Left = Home
- fn+Right = End
- Eject = Eject all optical discs
- Enter = Right mouse button

I have installed remapper but it appears the Fn keys are not working – in particular F7 to external projector.

Is this program specific to Macbook Pros, or will it work on a Macbook as well?

Hi,
I love your sotware, really helps me out, though I have one concern. In the previous versions of this sotware, there were no problems using the fn F-keys to increase/decrease light/volume, however those versions did not have some of the other fancy functions. Therefor i downloaded this latest version, leading to my fn F-1-5 doing nothing, It seemed. I then realized that by holding fn F1 while pressing F2, the light incresed, and reversed (pressing F2 before F1) to decrease it. The same goes for Volume, holding mute-command and tapping decrease volume, decreases volume. So far so good, i can live with that ;D But i can’t INCREASE volume using these commands. neither fn F3 F5, nor fn F4 F5 does any difference.
I ask now, is this a bug in fixing-progress or am I setting something up wrong? Is there a workaround?
Thanks
Niclas
