Apple has just made some small changes to the Online Apple Store to change the maximum speed of the MacBook Pros, which are not going to be shipping for a few weeks. You can now get a MacBook Pro with a 2.16 GHZ dual-core processor, if you are willing to spend an extra $300.
This is to prove how fast Intel is going to make newer and faster chips a lot more frequently than we are used to. Apple says “It’s even faster than we thought” in their banner on the Online Apple Store.
Update! Apple also updated the MacBook’s processors free of charge. The Apple Press Release states the changes.
The $2,499 model now includes a 2.0 GHz Intel Core Duo processor, up from the previously announced 1.83 GHz, and will begin shipping this week. The $1,999 model now includes a 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo processor, up from the previously announced 1.67 GHz, and will begin shipping next week. In addition, customers may now upgrade to a 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo processor as a build-to-order option on the Apple Online Store.
