A very short and pretty poor life the Jukebox had…
Dell seems to have officially stopped selling hard-drive based Dell Jukebox MP3 players, and have instead “partnered” with Creative to sell their players on the Dell online store. The Ditty, which was released only about four months ago, is now the only Dell MP3 player being sold by Dell.
Although Dell was not an extreme competitor to Apple, it should help boost the iPod’s market share. I know someone who owned a Dell Jukebox, but became frustrated because it “Couldn’t Access Firmware”. I failed to get him to return the the big and ugly Dell Jukebox to buy a cool iPod, but I’m pretty sure that his next MP3 player will be an iPod.
Anyway, I also wanted to mention the significance of the comparison of the width of the nano to a pencil that Apple publicizes. Dell made a comparison of the Ditty to a pencil back in September to publicize how the Ditty was twice the size of a pencil. Then, Apple turns around by comparing the nano to a pencil, saying that the nano was smaller than the iPod plus a large color screen.
